Reviews for Ondine Restaurant
Review highlights
Based on 965 reviewsOndine Restaurant, located in Edinburgh’s city center, is praised for its exceptional seafood offerings and elegant ambiance. Guests frequently highlight the beautifully presented dishes, particularly fresh fish and seafood platters, complemented by a well-curated cocktail selection. The welcoming and attentive staff contribute significantly to the overall dining experience, often noted for their knowledge and friendly service. While the restaurant’s central location and modern decor enhance its appeal, some mention ongoing construction affecting external views. Pricing is generally considered on the higher side but justified by the quality and experience. Minor critiques occasionally touch on dessert portions, though the overall consensus remains highly positive, with many recommending Ondine for a romantic or indulgent seafood meal.
Excellent dinner based on fish. The restaurant is very nicely located in the center of the city. Staff is very welcoming. All dishes are well prepared. We tried a couple of cocktails at the end of the dinner, and they were very good. It was a bit pricey, but it was worth it. If you are looking for a romantic dinner based on fish, this is your place
Arrived for the Oyster happy hour and wish we could have stayed for a full meal. Lovely indulgent experience, staff were so knowledgeable and diligent. Would definitely recommend. The menu does say limited to 12 oysters per person however i got the impression that on quieter days they might be persuaded to give you a couple more Cocktails were excellentand delicious- made right in front of us.
Love the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant. Just a shame the scaffolding is blocking the view of the city. But nevertheless it was still enjoyable with the view in the restaurant. The staff was friendly, welcoming and tentative. Food was well presented and cooked beautifully. Highly recommended. We'll definitely come back next time.
Everything was wonderful, from service & staff to food & presentation & the ambiance - modern & sleek on the second floor off the main street on the Royal Mile. Excellent place we stumbled upon (they’re currently doing building construction so it’s easy to miss), just follow the signs - literally! We shared the John Dory whole fish as the chefs special - delicious & cooked to perfection. The salmon appetizer was excellent. The Caesar salad & pesto gnocchi completed dinner. Another top favorite restaurant in Scotland. Absolutely recommend while in Edinburgh!
Great food and superb service. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Enjoyed the seafood platter very much. Only item not quite to oar was the cheesecake ... at 12 a serving it was a bit underwhelming.
Very friendly staff, great service! Oysters were delicious and fresh! The scallops were well cooked - and super well seasoned! The halibut special was unfortunately a bit too salty for my liking but I think it was a one off and the staff were very apologetic and friendly about it!
Visited twice at the weekend both Friday and Saturday. I had friends from England up for the Rugby on Saturday. They suggested Ondine. Great I thought I love it there. Oysters Soup Ham Puddings Squid tempura. With Vietnamese dipping sauce. Buffalo oysters were to die for. Full meaty oysters. Every thing was on point for both meals. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.
Another incredible meal at Ondine last night. Gutted for them that the scaffolding outside is making the restaurant difficult to find as it is a true Scottish gem of a place selling the best (not cheapest) fresh seafood. Fab, friendly team who work hard to make sure your dining experience is the best. Really knowledgeable and can recommend dishes to your taste not to mention matching wines. Their cocktails are pretty fab too. Worth the find.
